GOOEY TRAVEL APPLE CRISP

Gooey Travel Apple Crisp

If you love apples, you won’t be able to resist this gooey travel apple crisp recipe!! It smells as amazing as it tastes too! Fill the air at your campsite or roadside space with the smell of warm fresh apples and cinnamon! Picture warm gooey apple crisp as you sit next to a toasty fire for a romantic treat!

The best way to achieve the crispy part of this recipe make sure to grease the bottom of your Dutch Oven: https://www.amazon.com/Lodge-Enameled-Classic-Enamel-Island/dp/B000N501BK beforehand and set it aside. You can use non-stick cooking spray or butter, but you don’t need a lot. Start by preheating, light your charcoals or start your propane heat source. Once the coals are glowing but do not have a flame, they are ready. If you have a thermometer on your propane grill, it is ready at 350 degrees.

Next, you are going to peel the apples, you can also add peeled pears for added flavor! Once everything is peeled cut into slices and place in a mixing bowl. Sprinkle 1/2 cup of sugar on top, trying to cover all the apple and/or pear slices. You can now put that mixture in the greased Dutch Oven.

In that same mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients. The packed brown sugar, oats, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract and butter mixture will be too hard to mix with a wooden spoon, so get in there with your bare hands! Squeeze it all together until everything is evenly mixed, you may still have some lumps but that is ok, they will taste great!

Finally, spoon the topping over the apple/pear mixture in the Dutch Oven, covering the fruit completely. You will know it is finished when it is bubbling and has a golden brown crust on top! It should usually take around 30-45 minutes depending on how you like your fruit. Less time the fruit will be a bit firmer, more time and it will be a bit softer.

Before you know it you will be enjoying your gooey travel apple crisp around the campfire! Mmmm!
