YUMMY CAMPFIRE NACHOS

Yummy Campfire Nachos

Craving some crunchy, cheesy and yummy Campfire Nachos? Just because you are out in nature doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy them! The best part is that there aren’t any plates or silverware needed, just eat it right with your hands!

One might be lead to believe they need a microwave or an oven to accomplish such a feat, but fear not! In this post we will discuss how to make these magical munchies, yummy campfire nachos your lunch!

FIRST, WHAT YOU NEED:

First, you will want to precook any meat you may want to use for a topping. You will need an inexpensive Cast Iron Dutch Oven with a lid, like this one: https://www.walmart.com/c/kp/camp-dutch-ovens and a fire. A couple of fire options include a propane grill like one of these: https://www.walmart.com/browse/patio-garden/grills-outdoor-cooking/propane/5428_4089/ZnVlbF90eXBlOlByb3BhbmUie or fire from an actual fire pit.

LAYERING YOUR YUMMY CAMPFIRE NACHOS:

Next, you are going to layer your nachos into the bottom of the Cast Iron Dutch Oven. It is recommended that you add a small amount of liquid to the bottom first, this is your choice. Some say the steam helps it melt the cheese faster and some say it makes the chips a little soggy. You could try liquid with solids in it like salsa or beans if you choose.

Finally, start stacking your tortilla chips first, then beans, other toppings (some ideas down below) and then top with shredded cheese. Once this layer is finished, begin with the tortilla chips again and so forth until all of your ingredients are used. Place the lid on the Cast Iron Dutch Oven.

COOKING TIP:

Make sure your fire is low or the Cast Iron Dutch Oven isn’t close to the flame, because the tortilla chips will burn before the cheese melts. These yummy campfire nachos should only take about 10 minutes, so keep watching them to see if the cheese is melted. That is when you know they are finished. If you are going to add lettuce, it is best to add at the end so it does not wilt while melting the cheese!
